Of course, before embarking on the adventure you should get to know a little more about this green country<\/b>. We are happy to tell you the fun facts about Costa Rica. <\/p>\n

The green country<\/h2>\n

One of the fun facts aboout Costa Rica<\/b> is that it has managed to become “the green country”. What does this mean?<\/p>\n

Costa Rica has 6% of the world’s biodiversity<\/b>. That’s why we recommend Ca\u00f1o Island snorkeling<\/a> to enjoy its coral reefs where there are more than 60 species, it will be a unique experience. <\/p>\n

\"Turtle <\/p>\n

To complete the experience it is interesting to visit Corcovado National Park<\/a>, one of the largest where you can enjoy the terrestrial fauna. <\/p>\n

In addition, 99%<\/b> of its energy<\/b> comes from renewable sources<\/b> (solar, biomass, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal energy), it is forbidden to search for oil, hunt for profit or sport and by 2021<\/b> aims to neutralize carbon emissions.<\/b><\/p>\n

One thing is clear, Costa Rica proposed to help the environment and become a green power. Has it succeeded? We’ll have to travel to Costa Rica to find out.<\/p>\n

Costa Rica enchants with its beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the beach. You will be able to enjoy them always at the same time<\/b>, since you will be near the equator. <\/p>\n

The Ticos<\/h2>\n

The Population of Costa Rica<\/b> or Tiquicia are called ticos<\/b>. This affectionate name comes from the fact that the entire population used the diminutives<\/b> ending in -tico or -tica<\/b> (hermanitico and chiquitico), instead of -tito and -tita, which are used in more Spanish-speaking countries. <\/p>\n

Costa Rican happiness<\/h2>\n

Another fun fact is that Costa Ricans<\/b> have a long life (many surpass 90 and 100 years<\/b>), could it be because of the happiness so characteristic of the country?<\/p>\n

When you walk through the streets of the country you will hear the expression “pura vida”<\/b> everywhere, as it is used to say hello, how are you or to cheer up your loved ones. Any excuse is good to use it! <\/p>\n

So…you know, Pura Vida!<\/p>\n

Isn’t it amazing? In Costa Rica the streets don’t have names so you’ll have to guide yourself with GPS<\/b> or in a more fun and Costa Rican way, following the indications of the Ticos<\/b> \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

The Arenal<\/b> is the most famous and recognized for its eruption in 2010. But if you want to see more than just a volcano, Po\u00e1s has a boiling acid lake and Iraz\u00fa a stunning blue-green lake. <\/p>\n

One of the most curious facts<\/b> is that Costa Rica has had no army since 1948<\/b> after the Civil War. The country’s president Jose Figueres abolished the army and stated that he did not want an army of soldiers, but of educators. <\/p>\n

Also, the country takes pride in not having armed troops and therefore celebrates Army Abolition Day on December 1. <\/p>\n

Education is the most important thing<\/h2>\n

The country’s literacy<\/b> rate is 95%<\/b>, surprising? <\/p>\n

The government encourages education for all children with free compulsory education. There are even classes in the suburbs so that children far from the cities can learn. <\/p>\n

It seems that what was agreed in 1948 has been fulfilled. <\/p>\n

The curious production of pineapple <\/h2>\n

This country is the primary producer<\/b> and exporter of pineapple in the world<\/b>. Behind pineapple are bananas and coffee, they occupy the second and third most exported agricultural products in Costa Rica. <\/p>\n
