If you are going to visit Peru you cannot miss the opportunity to visit Manu National Park. This nature reserve is one of the most important in the country. The animals you will find there make this park a unique place.

Where is Manu National Park?
The first thing you should know about this park is where it is located. Manu Park is part of the Peruvian Amazon. It is located in southeastern Peru, between the departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios.
It encompasses the Manu River, the Madre de Dios River (among others), and even the famous Apu Kanajhuay Mountain. Its key location gives it the name of the “heart of Peru”. It is also named for all the life it harbors within. ❤️
Park size
This nature reserve extends over 1,909,806 hectares. Due to its enormous size, it is further divided into different zones: the national park (of 1,532,806 hectares), the reserved zone (of 257,000 hectares) and the cultural zone (of 120,000 hectares).
The park is enormous. The area you can visit is the “cultural area”, along its 120,000 hectares are allowed guided tours (always organized by authorized agencies) and other tourist activities. Always respecting the natural environment.
How to access
The easiest way is to access the park through the Manu National Park tour, in this case, you would leave from your accommodation in Cuzco. Being such a large area it is advisable to organize the visit through an agency.
If you are thinking of accessing the reserved area on your own pay attention. There are several ways to get there, although the most recommended (and least complicated) is via a “combi”. These vans leave from Salvation and from San Jeronimo. The journey takes about 7 hours approximately. 🕒
